Is Science Useful?

It isn't always easy to answer the question of whether or not science is valuable. Scientists are frequently encouraged to pursue their interests however this could result in research focusing on a range of topics -some of which might not be relevant to society. Science is about developing theories and making predictions which can be tested. These discoveries are view it often used in the development of new technologies like drugs, medical devices and renewable energy sources.

To be effective science must also tackle issues and problems that affect the well-being of humans. This requires collaboration with key stakeholders to define their needs, define objectives and formulate plans to address the needs. Many scientific initiatives lack this kind of collaboration and instead, they focus on advancing knowledge without any direct connection to society. The impact of research on society isn't always accurately measured and tracked.

Translational ecology (TE) is one of the strategies that have been developed to create usable science. It focuses on the importance of scientists proactively taking into consideration and responding to research context. TE also stresses the importance of engaging end users in a meaningful manner throughout the research process and encouraging learning-based decision-making processes such as adaptive management, which is widely used by natural resource and land managers.

Finding a topic that is both interesting and scholarly can be difficult for students, especially when considering the time constraints often enforced by professors. The list of easy research topics in science can help students choose a topic to impress their professors as well as contribute valuable information to scientific community.
